The production rate of baryons relative to mesons in collisions at a center-of-mass energy TeV is measured by the LHCb experiment. The ratio of to production cross-sections shows a significant dependence on both the transverse momentum and the measured charged-particle multiplicity. At low multiplicity, the ratio measured at LHCb is consistent with the value measured in collisions, and increases by a factor of with increasing multiplicity. At relatively low transverse momentum, the ratio of to cross-sections is higher than what is measured in collisions, but converges with the ratio as the momentum increases. These results imply that the evolution of heavy quarks into final-state hadrons is influenced by the density of the hadronic environment produced in the collision. Comparisons with a statistical hadronization model and implications for the mechanisms enforcing quark confinement are discussed.

Momentum measurements for very high momentum charged particles, such as muons from electroweak vector boson decays, are particularly susceptible to charge-dependent curvature biases that arise from misalignments of tracking detectors. Low momentum charged particles used in alignment procedures have limited sensitivity to coherent displacements of such detectors, and therefore are unable to fully constrain these misalignments to the precision necessary for studies of electroweak physics. Additional approaches are therefore required to understand and correct for these effects. The production of ψ (2S) mesons in proton-lead collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of= 8. 16 TeV is studied with the LHCb detector using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 34 nb− 1. The prompt and nonprompt ψ (2S) production cross-sections and the ratio of the ψ (2S) to J/ψ cross-section are measured as a function of the meson transverse momentum and rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass frame, together with forward-to-backward ratios and nuclear modification factors. The production of prompt ψ (2S) is observed to be more suppressed compared to pp collisions than the prompt J/ψ production, while the nonprompt productions have similar suppression factors.

A method is presented to reconstruct charged particles with lifetimes between 10 ps and 10 ns, which considers a combination of their decay products and the partial tracks created by the initial charged particle. Using the baryon as a benchmark, the method is demonstrated with simulated events and proton-proton collision data at TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb collected with the LHCb detector in 2018. Significant improvements in the angular resolution and the signal purity are obtained. The method is implemented as part of the LHCb Run 3 event trigger in a set of requirements to select detached hyperons. This is the first demonstration of the applicability of this approach at the LHC, and the first to show its scaling with instantaneous luminosity.

The SND@ LHC experiment has been taking data at the LHC since the beginning of Run3. With the analysis of the data collected in 2022, the experiment has published the observation of collider muon neutrinos, thus paving the way for neutrino physics at the LHC. The results which will be obtained from Run3 will provide the first measurement of neutrinos in an unprecedented energy range and will constrain the gluon Parton Distribution Function using neutrinos as a probe of charm production in an unexplored pseudo-rapidity domain. Nevertheless, the Run3 measurements will be statistically limited, given the geometrical constraints of the current detector and the expected integrated luminosity. This document expresses the interest of the SND@ LHC Collaboration to extend the physics reach of the LHC in the neutrino sector and proposes an upgrade of the detector to fully exploit the potential of the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). The factor 5 increase of instantaneous luminosity foreseen by the HL-LHC is incompatible with the usage of nuclear emulsion films as the high-resolution tracking detector in the neutrino target region and we propose to replace them by silicon trackers. Along with the increase of statistical precision, we propose significant improvements of the experimental setup: we plan to add a magnetic spectrometer which would allow separate identification of neutrino and antineutrino interactions for both muon and tau neutrinos. A measurement of time-dependent C P violation in the decays of B 0 and B 0 mesons to the final states J/ψ (→ μ+ μ−) K S 0, ψ (2 S)(→ μ+ μ−) K S 0 and J/ψ (→ e+ e−) K S 0 with K S 0→ π+ π− is presented. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb− 1 collected at a center-of-mass energy of s= 13 TeV with the LHCb detector. The C P-violation parameters are measured to be S ψ K S 0= 0.717±0.013 (stat)±0.008 (syst) and C ψ K S 0= 0.008±0.012 (stat)±0.003 (syst). This measurement of S ψ K S 0 represents the most precise single measurement of the CKM angle β to date and is more precise than the current world average. In addition, measurements of the C P-violation parameters of the individual channels are reported and a combination with the LHCb Run 1 measurements is performed.

The decay-time-dependent C P asymmetry in B s 0→ J/ψ (→ μ+ μ−) K+ K− decays is measured using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb− 1, collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Using a sample of approximately 349 000 B s 0 signal decays with an invariant K+ K− mass in the vicinity of the ϕ (1020) resonance, the C P-violating phase ϕ s is measured, along with the difference in decay widths of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the B s 0− Bs 0 system, Δ Γ s, and the difference of the average B s 0 and B 0 meson decay widths, Γ s− Γ d. The values obtained are ϕ s=− 0.039±0.022±0.006 rad, Δ Γ s= 0.0845±0.0044±0.0024 ps− 1, and Γ s− Γ d=− 0.05 6− 0.0015+ 0.0013±0.0014 ps− 1, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The production of η and η′ mesons is studied in proton-proton and proton-lead collisions collected with the LHCb detector. Proton-proton collisions are studied at center-of-mass energies of 5.02 and 13 TeV and proton-lead collisions are studied at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon of 8.16 TeV. The studies are performed in center-of-mass (cm) rapidity regions 2.5< y c. m.< 3.5 (forward rapidity) and− 4.0< y c. m.<− 3.0 (backward rapidity) defined relative to the proton beam direction. The η and η′ production cross sections are measured differentially as a function of transverse momentum for 1.5< p T< 10 GeV and 3< p T< 10 GeV, respectively. The differential cross sections are used to calculate nuclear modification factors. A model-independent study of CP violation in decays is presented using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9fb collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of and TeV. The CKM angle is determined by examining the distributions of signal decays in phase-space bins of the self-conjugate decays, where . A study of prompt Ξ c+ production in proton-lead collisions is performed with the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 8.16 TeV in 2016 in p Pb and Pb p collisions with an estimated integrated luminosity of approximately 12.5 and 17.4 nb− 1, respectively. The Ξ c+ production cross section, as well as the Ξ c+ to Λ c+ production cross-section ratio, are measured as a function of the transverse momentum and rapidity and compared to the latest theory predictions. The forward-backward asymmetry is also measured as a function of the Ξ c+ transverse momentum. The results provide strong constraints on theoretical calculation and are a unique input for hadronization studies in different collision systems.

A search for rare B→ Dμ+ μ− decays is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb− 1. No significant signals are observed in the non-resonant μ+ μ− modes, and upper limits of,, and are set at the 95% confidence level, where f c and f u are the fragmentation fractions of a B meson with a c and u quark respectively in proton-proton collisions. Each result is either the first such measurement or an improvement by three orders of magnitude on an existing limit. The first observation of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed Ω c 0→ Ω− K+ and Ω c 0→ Ξ− π+ decays is reported, using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb− 1, collected with the LHCb detector between 2016 and 2018. The branching fraction ratios are measured to be B (Ω c 0→ Ω− K+) B (Ω c 0→ Ω− π+)=[6.08±0.51 (stat)±0.40 (syst)]%, B (Ω c 0→ Ξ− π+) B (Ω c 0→ Ω− π+)=[15.81±0.87 (stat)±0.44 (syst)±0.16 (ext)]%. In addition, using the Ω c 0→ Ω− π+ decay channel, the Ω c 0 baryon mass is measured to be M (Ω c 0)= 2695.28±0.07 (stat)±0.27 (syst)±0.30 (ext) MeV, improving the precision of the previous world average by a factor of 4.

The decays and are observed for the first time, in proton-proton collision data at TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb collected with the LHCb detector. Their ratios of branching fractions with respect to the mode are measured to be \begin{align*} \begin{split} \frac{\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_b^0 \to \Lambda_c^+\bar{D}^0 K^-)}{\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_b^0 \to \Lambda_c^+ D_s^-)} & = 0.1908 {}_{-0.0034}^{+0.0036} {}_{-0.0018}^{+0.0016} \pm 0.0038 \\ \frac{\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_b^0 \to \Lambda_c^+\bar{D}^{*0} K^-)}{\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_b^0 \to \Lambda_c^+ D_s^-)} & = 0.589 {}_{-0.017}^{+0.018} {}_{-0.018}^{+0.017} \pm 0.012 \\ \frac{\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_b^0 \to \Lambda_c^+ D_s^{*-})}{\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_b^0 \to \Lambda_c^+ D_s^-)} & = 1.668 \pm 0.022 {}_{-0.055}^{+0.061}\ , \end{split} \end{align*} where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second systematic, and the third, for the decays, are due to the uncertainties on the branching fractions of the and decay modes. The measured branching fractions probe factorization assumptions in effective theories and provide the normalization for future pentaquark searches in decay channels.
