The compatibility of W-boson mass measurements performed by the ATLAS, LHCb, CDF, and D0 experiments is studied using a coherent framework with theory uncertainty correlations. The measurements are combined using a number of recent sets of parton distribution functions (PDF), and are further combined with the average value of measurements from the Large Electron–Positron collider. The considered PDF sets generally have a low compatibility with a suite of global rapidity-sensitive Drell–Yan measurements. The most compatible set is CT18 due to its larger uncertainties. A combination of all measurements yields a value of  MeV with the CT18 set, but has a probability of compatibility of 0.5% and is therefore disfavoured. Combinations are performed removing each measurement individually, and a 91% probability of compatibility is obtained when the CDF measurement is removed. The …

The first simultaneous test of muon-electron universality using B+→ K+ ℓ+ ℓ− and B 0→ K* 0 ℓ+ ℓ− decays is performed, in two ranges of the dilepton invariant-mass squared, q 2. The analysis uses beauty mesons produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb− 1. Each of the four lepton universality measurements reported is either the first in the given q 2 interval or supersedes previous LHCb measurements. The results are compatible with the predictions of the Standard Model.

Measurements of C P asymmetries in charmless three-body decays of B±mesons are reported using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.9 fb− 1. The previously observed C P asymmetry in B±→ π±K+ K− decays is confirmed, and C P asymmetries are observed with a significance of more than five standard deviations in the B±→ π±π+ π− and B±→ K±K+ K− decays, while the C P asymmetry of B±→ K±π+ π− decays is confirmed to be compatible with zero. The distributions of these asymmetries are also studied as a function of the three-body phase space and suggest contributions from rescattering and resonance interference processes. An indication of the presence of the decays B±→ π±χ c 0 (1 P) in both B±→ π±π+ π− and B±→ π±K+ K− decays is observed, as is C P violation involving these amplitudes.

The LHCb upgrade represents a major change of the experiment. The detectors have been almost completely renewed to allow running at an instantaneous luminosity five times larger than that of the previous running periods. Readout of all detectors into an all-software trigger is central to the new design, facilitating the reconstruction of events at the maximum LHC interaction rate, and their selection in real time. The experiment's tracking system has been completely upgraded with a new pixel vertex detector, a silicon tracker upstream of the dipole magnet and three scintillating fibre tracking stations downstream of the magnet. The whole photon detection system of the RICH detectors has been renewed and the readout electronics of the calorimeter and muon systems have been fully overhauled. The first stage of the all-software trigger is implemented on a GPU farm. The output of the trigger provides a combination of totally reconstructed physics objects, such as tracks and vertices, ready for final analysis, and of entire events which need further offline reprocessing. This scheme required a complete revision of the computing model and rewriting of the experiment's software.

The nuclear modification factor of neutral pions is measured in proton-lead collisions collected at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon of 8.16 TeV with the LHCb detector. The π 0 production cross section is measured differentially in transverse momentum (p T) for 1.5< p T< 10.0 GeV and in center-of-mass pseudorapidity (η c. m.) regions 2.5< η c. m.< 3.5 (forward) and− 4.0< η c. m.<− 3.0 (backward) defined relative to the proton beam direction. The forward measurement shows a sizable suppression of π 0 production, while the backward measurement shows the first evidence of π 0 enhancement in proton-lead collisions at the LHC. Together, these measurements provide precise constraints on models of nuclear structure and particle production in high-energy nuclear collisions.

Measurements of C P asymmetry in charmless B→ P V decays are presented, where P and V denote a pseudoscalar and a vector meson, respectively. Five different B→ P V decays from four final states, B±→ π±π+ π−, B±→ K±π+ π−, B±→ K±K+ K− and B±→ π±K+ K− are analyzed. The measurements are based on a method that does not require full amplitude analyses, and are performed using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by LHCb between 2015 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.9 fb− 1. In the π+ π− P-wave, in the region dominated by the B±→ ρ (770) 0 K±decay, a C P asymmetry of A C P=+ 0.150±0.019±0.011 is measured, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This is the first observation of C P violation in this process. For the other four decay channels, in regions dominated by the B±→ ρ (770) 0 π±, B±→ K …

The first full angular analysis and an updated measurement of the decay-rate CP asymmetry of the D0→ π+ π− µ+ µ− and D0→ K+K− µ+ µ− decays are reported. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb− 1. The full set of CP-averaged angular observables and their CP asymmetries are measured as a function of the dimuon invariant mass. The results are consistent with expectations from the standard model and with CP symmetry.

Mesons comprising a beauty quark and strange quark can oscillate between particle () and antiparticle () flavour eigenstates, with a frequency given by the mass difference between heavy and light mass eigenstates, Δms. Here we present a measurement of Δms using π+ decays produced in proton–proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The oscillation frequency is found to be Δms = 17.7683 ± 0.0051 ± 0.0032 ps−1, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This measurement improves on the current Δms precision by a factor of two. We combine this result with previous LHCb measurements to determine Δms = 17.7656 ± 0.0057 ps−1, which is the legacy measurement of the original LHCb detector.

The first study of the angular distribution of μ+ μ− pairs produced in the forward rapidity region via the Drell-Yan reaction p p→ γ*/Z+ X→ ℓ+ ℓ−+ X is presented, using data collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.1 fb− 1. The coefficients of the five leading terms in the angular distribution are determined as a function of the dimuon transverse momentum and rapidity. The results are compared to various theoretical predictions of the Z-boson production mechanism and can also be used to probe transverse-momentum-dependent parton distributions within the proton.

Events containing a Z boson and a charm jet are studied for the first time in the forward region of proton-proton collisions. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb− 1 collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the LHCb detector. In events with a Z boson and a jet, the fraction of charm jets is determined in intervals of Z-boson rapidity in the range 2.0< y (Z)< 4.5. A sizable enhancement is observed in the forwardmost y (Z) interval, which could be indicative of a valencelike intrinsic-charm component in the proton wave function.

The production of prompt charged particles in proton-lead collisions and in proton-proton collisions at the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy s N N= 5 TeV is studied at LHCb as a function of pseudorapidity (η) and transverse momentum (p T) with respect to the proton beam direction. The nuclear modification factor for charged particles is determined as a function of η between− 4.8< η<− 2.5 (backward region) and 2.0< η< 4.8 (forward region), and p T between 0.2< p T< 8.0 GeV/c. The results show a suppression of charged particle production in proton-lead collisions relative to proton-proton collisions in the forward region and an enhancement in the backward region for p T larger than 1.5 GeV/c. This measurement constrains nuclear PDFs and saturation models at previously unexplored values of the parton momentum fraction down to 10− 6.

A search for the decay B0→ φµ+ µ-is performed using proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13TeV collected by the LHCb experiment and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9fb-1. No evidence for the B0→ φµ+ µ-decay is found and an upper limit on the branching fraction, excluding the φ and charmonium regions in the dimuon spectrum, of 4.4× 10-3 at a 90% credibility level, relative to that of the B0 s→ φµ+ µ-decay, is established. Using the measured B0 s→ φµ+ µ-branching fraction and assuming a phase-space model, the absolute branching fraction of the decay B0→ φµ+ µ-in the full q2 range is determined to be less than 3.2× 10-9 at a 90% credibility level.

A measurement of the lifetimes of the Ω c 0 and Ξ c 0 baryons is reported using proton–proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5. 4 fb-1 collected by the LHCb experiment. The Ω c 0 and Ξ c 0 baryons are produced directly from proton interactions and reconstructed in the pK-K-π+ final state. The Ω c 0 lifetime is measured to be 276.5±13.4±4.4±0.7 fs, and the Ξ c 0 lifetime is measured to be 148. 0±2. 3±2. 2±0. 2 fs, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third due to the uncertainty on the D 0 lifetime. These results confirm previous LHCb measurements based on semileptonic beauty-hadron decays, which disagree with earlier results of a four times shorter Ω c 0 lifetime, and provide the single most precise measurement of the Ω c 0 lifetime.
