The first full angular analysis and an updated measurement of the decay-rate CP asymmetry of the D0→ π+ π− µ+ µ− and D0→ K+K− µ+ µ− decays are reported. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb− 1. The full set of CP-averaged angular observables and their CP asymmetries are measured as a function of the dimuon invariant mass. The results are consistent with expectations from the standard model and with CP symmetry.

A search for dark matter in the form of strongly interacting massive particles (SIMPs) using the CMS detector at the LHC is presented. The SIMPs would be produced in pairs that manifest themselves as pairs of jets without tracks. The energy fraction of jets carried by charged particles is used as a key discriminator to suppress efficiently the large multijet background, and the remaining background is estimated directly from data. The search is performed using proton–proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 16.1, collected with the CMS detector in 2016. No significant excess of events is observed above the expected background. For the simplified dark matter model under consideration, SIMPs with masses up to 100 are excluded and further sensitivity is explored towards higher masses.

Events containing a Z boson and a charm jet are studied for the first time in the forward region of proton-proton collisions. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb− 1 collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the LHCb detector. In events with a Z boson and a jet, the fraction of charm jets is determined in intervals of Z-boson rapidity in the range 2.0< y (Z)< 4.5. A sizable enhancement is observed in the forwardmost y (Z) interval, which could be indicative of a valencelike intrinsic-charm component in the proton wave function.

The spectra measurements of charged hadrons produced in the shower of a parton originating in the same hard scattering with a leptonically decaying Z boson are reported in lead-lead nuclei (Pb-Pb) and proton-proton (p p) collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. Both Pb-Pb and p p data sets are recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 nb− 1 and 320 pb− 1, respectively. Hadronic collision data with one reconstructed Z boson candidate with the transverse momentum p T> 30 GeV/c are analyzed. The Z boson constrains the initial energy and direction of the associated parton. In heavy ion events, azimuthal angular distributions of charged hadrons with respect to the direction of a Z boson are sensitive to modifications of the in-medium parton shower and medium response. compared to reference data from p p interactions, the results …

A search for W γ resonances in the mass range between 0.7 and 6.0 TeV is presented. The W boson is reconstructed via its hadronic decays, with the final-state products forming a single large-radius jet, owing to a high Lorentz boost of the W boson. The search is based on proton-proton collision data at s= 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb− 1, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2016–2018. The W γ mass spectrum is parameterized with a smoothly falling background function and examined for the presence of resonance-like signals. No significant excess above the predicted background is observed. Model-specific upper limits at 95% confidence level on the product of the cross section and branching fraction to the W γ channel are set. Limits for narrow resonances and for resonances with an intrinsic width equal to 5% of their mass, for spin-0 and spin-1 hypotheses, range …

A data sample collected with the LHCb detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb− 1 is used to measure eleven CP violation observables in B±→ Dh±decays, where h is either a kaon or a pion. The neutral D meson decay is reconstructed in the three-body final states: K±π∓ π 0; π+ π− π 0; K+ K− π 0 and the suppressed π±K∓ π 0 combination. The mode where a large CP asymmetry is expected, B±→[π±K∓ π 0] D K±, is observed with a significance greater than seven standard deviations. The ratio of the partial width of this mode relative to that of the favoured mode, B±→[K±π∓ π 0] D K±, is R ADS (K)=(1. 27±0. 16±0. 02)× 10− 2. Evidence for a large CP asymmetry is also seen: A ADS (K)=− 0. 38±0. 12±0. 02. Constraints on the CKM angle γ are calculated from the eleven reported observables.

The photoproduction of J/ψ mesons at low transverse momentum is studied in peripheral lead-lead collisions collected by the LHCb Collaboration at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 5 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 210 μ b− 1. The J/ψ candidates are reconstructed through the prompt decay into two muons of opposite charge in the rapidity region of 2.0< y< 4.5. The results significantly improve previous measurements and are compared to the latest theoretical prediction.

Mesons comprising a beauty quark and strange quark can oscillate between particle () and antiparticle () flavour eigenstates, with a frequency given by the mass difference between heavy and light mass eigenstates, Δms. Here we present a measurement of Δms using π+ decays produced in proton–proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The oscillation frequency is found to be Δms = 17.7683 ± 0.0051 ± 0.0032 ps−1, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This measurement improves on the current Δms precision by a factor of two. We combine this result with previous LHCb measurements to determine Δms = 17.7656 ± 0.0057 ps−1, which is the legacy measurement of the original LHCb detector.

Coherent production of J/ψ mesons is studied in ultraperipheral lead-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5 TeV, using a data sample collected by the LHCb experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 10 μb− 1. The J/ψ mesons are reconstructed in the dimuon final state and are required to have transverse momentum below 1 GeV. The cross-section within the rapidity range of 2. 0< y< 4. 5 is measured to be 4. 45±0. 24±0. 18±0. 58 mb, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third originates from the luminosity determination. The cross-section is also measured in J/ψ rapidity intervals. The results are compared to predictions from phenomenological models.

A search is performed for heavy neutrinos in the decay of a W boson into two muons and a jet. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 3. 0 fb− 1 of proton–proton collision data at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV collected with the LHCb experiment. Both same-sign and opposite-sign muons in the final state are considered. Data are found to be consistent with the expected background. Upper limits on the coupling of a heavy neutrino with the Standard Model neutrino are set at 95% confidence level in the heavy-neutrino mass range from 5 to 50 GeV/c2. These are of the order of 10− 3 for lepton-number-conserving decays and of the order of 10− 4 for lepton-number-violating heavy-neutrino decays.

A search for C P violation in charmless three-body Ξ b−→ p K− K− decays is performed using p p collision data recorded with the LHCb detector, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1 fb− 1 at a center-of-mass energy s= 7 TeV, 2 fb− 1 at s= 8 TeV and 2 fb− 1 at s= 13 TeV. A good description of the phase-space distribution is obtained with an amplitude model containing contributions from Σ (1385), Λ (1405), Λ (1520), Λ (1670), Σ (1775) and Σ (1915) resonances. The model allows for C P-violation effects, which are found to be consistent with zero. The branching fractions of Ξ b−→ Σ (1385) K−, Ξ b−→ Λ (1405) K−, Ξ b−→ Λ (1520) K−, Ξ b−→ Λ (1670) K−, Ξ b−→ Σ (1775) K− and Ξ b−→ Σ (1915) K− decays are also reported. In addition, an upper limit is placed on the product of ratios of Ω b− and Ξ b− fragmentation fractions and the Ω b−→ p K− K− and Ξ b−→ p K− K− branching fractions.

A study of Λ b 0 baryon decays to the D p K− final state is presented based on a proton-proton collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb− 1 collected with the LHCb detector. Two Λ b 0 decays are considered, Λ b 0→ D p K− with D→ K− π+ and D→ K+ π−, where D represents a superposition of D 0 and D 0 states. The latter process is expected to be suppressed relative to the former, and is observed for the first time. The ratio of branching fractions of the two decays is measured, and the C P asymmetry of the suppressed mode, which is sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle γ, is also reported.

The project of Super Charm-Tau (SCT) factory — a high-luminosity electron-positron collider for studying charmed hadrons and tau lepton — is proposed by Budker INP. The project implies single collision point equipped with a universal particle detector. The Aurora software framework has been developed for the SCT detector. It is based on trusted and widely used in high energy physics software packages, such as Gaudi, Geant4, and ROOT. At the same time, new ideas and developments are employed, in particular the Aurora project benefits a lot from the turnkey software for future colliders (Key4HEP) initiative. This paper describes the first release of the Aurora framework, summarizes its core technologies, structure and roadmap for the near future.

Measurements of the differential cross sections of Z + jets and + jets production, and their ratio, are presented as a function of the boson transverse momentum. Measurements are also presented of the angular distribution between the Z boson and the closest jet. The analysis is based on pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The results, corrected for detector effects, are compared with various theoretical predictions. In general, the predictions at higher orders in perturbation theory show better agreement with the measurements. This work provides the first measurement of the ratio of the differential cross sections of Z + jets and + jets production at 13 TeV, as well as the first direct measurement of Z bosons emitted collinearly with a jet.

The analysis is based on the comparison of observed data with the standard model prediction, as determined from simulation, in several hundred final states and multiple kinematic distributions. Events containing at least one electron or muon are classified based on their final state topology, and an automated search algorithm surveys the observed data for deviations from the prediction. The sensitivity of the search is validated using multiple methods. No significant deviations from the predictions have been observed. For a wide range of final state topologies, agreement is found …
