A search for rare B→ Dμ+ μ− decays

A search for rare B→ Dμ+ μ− decays is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb− 1. No significant signals are observed in the non-resonant μ+ μ− modes, and upper limits of,, and are set at the 95% confidence level, where f c and f u are the fragmentation fractions of a B meson with a c and u quark respectively in proton-proton collisions. Each result is either the first such measurement or an improvement by three orders of magnitude on an existing limit. Separate upper limits are calculated when the muon pair originates from a J/ψ→ μ+ μ− decay. The branching fraction of multiplied by the fragmentation-fraction ratio is measured to be

Search for quantum black hole production in lepton+jet final states using proton-proton collisions at = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A search for quantum black holes in electron+ jet and muon+ jet invariant mass spectra is performed with 140 fb− 1 of data collected by the ATLAS detector in proton-proton collisions at s= 13 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. The observed invariant mass spectrum of lepton+ jet pairs is consistent with Standard Model expectations. Upper limits are set at 95% confidence level on the production cross section times branching fractions for quantum black holes decaying into a lepton and a quark in a search region with invariant mass above 2.0 TeV. The resulting quantum black hole lower mass threshold limit is 9.2 TeV in the Arkani-Hamed-Dimopoulos-Dvali model, and 6.8 TeV in the Randall-Sundrum model.

Measurements of differential cross sections of Higgs boson production through gluon fusion in the final state at  TeV with the ATLAS detector

Higgs boson production via gluon–gluon fusion is measured in the decay channel. The dataset utilized corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb collected by the ATLAS detector from  TeV proton–proton collisions delivered by the Large Hadron Collider between 2015 and 2018. Differential cross sections are measured in a fiducial phase space restricted to the production of at most one additional jet. The results are consistent with Standard Model expectations, derived using different Monte Carlo generators.

Measurements of the suppression and correlations of dijets in Pb+Pb collisions at TeV

Studies of the correlations of the two highest transverse momentum (leading) jets in individual Pb+ Pb collision events can provide information about the mechanism of jet quenching by the hot and dense matter created in such collisions. In Pb+ Pb and p p collisions at s N N= 5.02 TeV, measurements of the leading dijet transverse momentum (p T) correlations are presented. Additionally, measurements in Pb+ Pb collisions of the dijet pair nuclear modification factors projected along leading and subleading jet p T are made. The measurements are performed using the ATLAS detector at the LHC with 260 pb− 1 of p p data collected in 2017 and 2.2 nb− 1 of Pb+ Pb data collected in 2015 and 2018. An unfolding procedure is applied to the two-dimensional leading and subleading jet p T distributions to account for experimental effects in the measurement of both jets. Results are provided for dijets with leading jet p T …

Improved measurement of the evolution of the reactor antineutrino flux and spectrum at Daya Bay

Reactor neutrino experiments play a crucial role in advancing our knowledge of neutrinos. In this Letter, the evolution of the flux and spectrum as a function of the reactor isotopic content is reported in terms of the inverse-beta-decay yield at Daya Bay with 1958 days of data and improved systematic uncertainties. These measurements are compared with two signature model predictions: the Huber-Mueller model based on the conversion method and the SM2018 model based on the summation method. The measured average flux and spectrum, as well as the flux evolution with the Pu 239 isotopic fraction, are inconsistent with the predictions of the Huber-Mueller model. In contrast, the SM2018 model is shown to agree with the average flux and its evolution but fails to describe the energy spectrum. Altering the predicted inverse-beta-decay spectrum from Pu 239 fission does not improve the agreement with the …

Measurement of the mass difference and relative production rate of the and baryons

The mass difference between the Ω b− and Ξ b− baryons is measured using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb− 1, and is found to be m (Ω b−)− m (Ξ b−)= 248.54±0.51 (stat)±0.38 (syst) MeV/c 2. The mass of the Ω b− baryon is measured to be m (Ω b−)= 6045.9±0.5 (stat)±0.6 (syst) MeV/c 2. This is the most precise determination of the Ω b− mass to date. In addition, the production rate of Ω b− baryons relative to that of Ξ b− baryons is measured for the first time in p p collisions, using an LHCb dataset collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb− 1. Reconstructing beauty baryons in the kinematic region 2< η< 6 and p T< 20 GeV/c with their decays to a J/ψ meson and a hyperon, the ratio f Ω b− f Ξ b−× B (Ω b−→ J/ψ Ω−) B (Ξ b−→ J/ψ Ξ−)= 0.120±0.008 (stat)±0.008 (syst), is obtained …

Measurement of the top-quark mass using a leptonic invariant mass in pp collisions at = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A measurement of the top-quark mass (m t) in the→ lepton+ jets channel is presented, with an experimental technique which exploits semileptonic decays of b-hadrons produced in the top-quark decay chain. The distribution of the invariant mass m ℓμ of the lepton, ℓ (with ℓ= e, μ), from the W-boson decay and the muon, μ, originating from the b-hadron decay is reconstructed, and a binned-template profile likelihood fit is performed to extract m t. The measurement is based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb− 1 of= 13 TeV pp collisions provided by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded by the ATLAS detector. The measured value of the top-quark mass is m t= 174. 41±0. 39 (stat.)±0. 66 (syst.)±0. 25 (recoil) GeV, where the third uncertainty arises from changing the P ythia 8 parton shower gluon-recoil scheme, used in top-quark decays, to a recently developed setup.
