The first observation of the decay is reported with high significance using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9fb, collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The ratio of its branching fraction relative to the channel is measured to be $$ \frac{ {\cal{B}}( B_c^+ \to J/\psi \pi^+\pi^0 ) } { {\cal{B}}( B_c^+ \to J/\psi \pi^+ ) } = 2.80 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.16 \,, $$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third related to imprecise knowledge of the branching fractions for and decays, which are used to determine the detection efficiency. The mass spectrum is found to be consistent with the dominance of an intermediate contribution in accordance with a model based on QCD factorisation.

We present an analysis of the process (where = 1, 2, or 3) reconstructed in of Belle II data during a special run of the SuperKEKB collider at four energy points near the peak of the resonance. By analyzing the mass distribution of the system and the Born cross sections of the process, we report the first observation of decays to the and final states, and find no evidence for decays to . Possible intermediate states in the transitions are also investigated, and no evidence for decays proceeding via the or intermediate states is found. We measure Born cross sections for the process that, combined with results from Belle, improve the precision of measurements of the mass and width by nearly a factor of two to MeV/ and MeV, respectively. The relative ratios of the Born cross sections at the resonance peak are also reported for the first time.

The B+→ D s+ D s− K+ decay is observed for the first time using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb− 1. Its branching fraction relative to that of the B+→ D+ D− K+ decay is measured to be B (B+→ D s+ D s− K+) B (B+→ D+ D− K+)= 0.525±0.033±0.027±0.034, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third is due to the uncertainties on the branching fractions of the D s±→ K∓ K±π±and D±→ K∓ π±π±decays. This measurement fills an experimental gap in the knowledge of the family of Cabibbo-favored b→ c c s transitions and opens the path for unique studies of spectroscopy in future.

A measurement of the branching fraction of the decay B0s→K0SK0S is performed using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5  fb−1 collected by the LHCb experiment between 2011 and 2016. The branching fraction is determined to be B(B0s→K0SK0S)= [8.3±1.6(stat)±0.9(syst)±0.8(norm)±0.3(fs/fd)]×10−6, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third and fourth are due to uncertainties on the branching fraction of the normalization mode B0→ϕK0S and the ratio of hadronization fractions fs/fd. This is the most precise measurement of this branching fraction to date. Furthermore, a measurement of the branching fraction of the decay B0→K0SK0S is performed relative to that of the B0s→K0SK0S channel, and is found to be B(B0→K0SK0S)B(B0s→K0SK0S)=[7.5±3.1(stat)±0.5(syst)±0.3(fs/fd)]×10−2.

The production of ψ (2S) mesons in proton-lead collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of= 8. 16 TeV is studied with the LHCb detector using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 34 nb− 1. The prompt and nonprompt ψ (2S) production cross-sections and the ratio of the ψ (2S) to J/ψ cross-section are measured as a function of the meson transverse momentum and rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass frame, together with forward-to-backward ratios and nuclear modification factors. The production of prompt ψ (2S) is observed to be more suppressed compared to pp collisions than the prompt J/ψ production, while the nonprompt productions have similar suppression factors.

We present a measurement of , a charmless decay into two vector mesons, using 772 pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider. The decay is observed with a significance of 7.9 standard deviations. We measure a branching fraction , a fraction of longitudinal polarization , and a time-integrated asymmetry = , where the first uncertainties listed are statistical and the second are systematic. This is the first observation of , and the first measurements of and for this decay.

For accurate determination of particle masses accurate knowledge of the momentum scale of the detectors is crucial. The procedure used to calibrate the momentum scale of the LHCb spectrometer is described and illustrated using the performance obtained with an integrated luminosity of 1.6 fb− 1 collected during 2016 in ???????? running. The procedure uses large samples of ????/????→ ????+ ????− and ????+→ ????/????????+ decays and leads to a relative accuracy of 3× 10− 4 on the momentum scale.

The decay-time-dependent C P asymmetry in B s 0→ J/ψ (→ μ+ μ−) K+ K− decays is measured using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb− 1, collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Using a sample of approximately 349 000 B s 0 signal decays with an invariant K+ K− mass in the vicinity of the ϕ (1020) resonance, the C P-violating phase ϕ s is measured, along with the difference in decay widths of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the B s 0− Bs 0 system, Δ Γ s, and the difference of the average B s 0 and B 0 meson decay widths, Γ s− Γ d. The values obtained are ϕ s=− 0.039±0.022±0.006 rad, Δ Γ s= 0.0845±0.0044±0.0024 ps− 1, and Γ s− Γ d=− 0.05 6− 0.0015+ 0.0013±0.0014 ps− 1, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The ratio of branching fractions /, where is an electron or muon, is measured using a Belle~II data sample with an integrated luminosity of at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy collider. Data is collected at the resonance, and one meson in the decay is fully reconstructed in hadronic decay modes. The accompanying signal meson is reconstructed as using leptonic decays. The normalization decay, , where is an electron or muon, produces the same observable final state particles. The ratio of branching fractions is extracted in a simultaneous fit to two signal-discriminating variables in both channels and yields . This result is consistent with the current world average and with standard model predictions.

A dark leptophilic scalar (ϕ L) is a hypothetical particle that couples only to leptons rather than quarks. We report on a search for ϕ L in the e+ e−→ τ+ τ− ϕ L, ϕ L→ ℓ+ ℓ−(ℓ= e, μ) process using 626 fb− 1 of data collected by the Belle experiment near the ϒ (4 S) resonance. We validate the backgrounds with multiple control regions in data, using a novel multiclass multivariate event classifier. In absence of a signal, we quote upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the coupling between ϕ L and leptons. Our bounds, obtained in a blinded approach, are 19% more constraining than the previous limits, averaged over the mass range 0.04≤ m ϕ L≤ 6.5 GeV. We exclude the parameter space below 4 GeV favored by measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon.

The LHCb collaboration measures production of the exotic hadron χc1 (3872) in proton-nucleus collisions for the first time. Comparison with the charmonium state ψ (2S) suggests that the exotic χc1 (3872) experiences different dynamics in the nuclear medium than conventional hadrons, and comparison with data from protonproton collisions indicates that the presence of the nucleus may modify χc1 (3872) production rates. This is the first measurement of the nuclear modification factor of an exotic hadron.

We report on a search for a resonance decaying to a pair of muons in events in the 0.212-9.000 GeV/ mass range, using 178 fb of data collected by the BelleII experiment at the SuperKEKB collider at a center of mass energy of 10.58 GeV. The analysis probes two different models of beyond the standard model: a vector boson in the model and a muonphilic scalar. We observe no evidence for a signal and set exclusion limits at the 90\% confidence level on the products of cross section and branching fraction for these processes, ranging from 0.046 fb to 0.97 fb for the model and from 0.055 fb to 1.3 fb for the muonphilic scalar model. For masses below 6 GeV/, the corresponding constraints on the couplings of these processes to the standard model range from 0.0008 to 0.039 for the model and from 0.0018 to 0.040 for the muonphilic scalar model. These are the first constraints on the muonphilic scalar from a dedicated search.

A method is presented to reconstruct charged particles with lifetimes between 10 ps and 10 ns, which considers a combination of their decay products and the partial tracks created by the initial charged particle. Using the baryon as a benchmark, the method is demonstrated with simulated events and proton-proton collision data at TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb collected with the LHCb detector in 2018. Significant improvements in the angular resolution and the signal purity are obtained. The method is implemented as part of the LHCb Run 3 event trigger in a set of requirements to select detached hyperons. This is the first demonstration of the applicability of this approach at the LHC, and the first to show its scaling with instantaneous luminosity.

We present the results of a search for the flavor-changing neutral-current rare decays and using a fb data sample that contains events. The data were collected at the resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy collider. We find no evidence for signal and set upper limits on branching fractions at the confidence level in the range depending on the decay channel. The obtained limits are the world's best results. This is the first search for the channels and .

A study of prompt Ξ c+ production in proton-lead collisions is performed with the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 8.16 TeV in 2016 in p Pb and Pb p collisions with an estimated integrated luminosity of approximately 12.5 and 17.4 nb− 1, respectively. The Ξ c+ production cross section, as well as the Ξ c+ to Λ c+ production cross-section ratio, are measured as a function of the transverse momentum and rapidity and compared to the latest theory predictions. The forward-backward asymmetry is also measured as a function of the Ξ c+ transverse momentum. The results provide strong constraints on theoretical calculation and are a unique input for hadronization studies in different collision systems.
